Computer and Mobile Device Training

Technology is a powerful tool that can be used by blind and visually impaired individuals to make certain tasks in their everyday lives easier. We know this because we’ve seen it firsthand. Those who attend our Adaptive Technology training gain valuable skills that allow them to apply their newfound knowledge in their jobs, helping them function more efficiently in a work environment, get around the city on their own, optimize their smartphone use and so much more.

We’ve designed our Adaptive Technology training to be customizable, accommodating those who are tech savvy, those who are tech novices and everyone in between. You set your own learning goals and we will help you get there without ever requiring sleep shade. Some clients come for the basics, like how to turn on a computer and use a keyboard. Some want to know about the devices’ built-in adaptation for the visually impaired and how to stay connected to their support system. Some come for help with a few trouble spots. Some keep coming back for months to keep up with the latest technology. We have the capacity to train all visually impaired individuals on tools that may not be readily available in other organizations. The weekly one-on-one, hour long sessions are led by our visually impaired trainers who understand the value of being able to use technology and what it’s like to learn it for the first time. Trainers stay up to date on the latest software and apps that benefit the blind community. Though we don’t sell devices, we have loaner equipment that allows you to experience it in your own life before committing to buy.

Thanks to our generous donors, we’re able to offset the cost of tech training sessions and demonstrations for our clients, offering training for low or no cost. Please consider donating to support this valuable training for your neighbors.   Here you’ll learn to navigate:

Digital eyewear
Digital eyewear are head-mounted frames that include a mini camera and mini screens or headsets that allow magnification or auditory feedback to a blind or visually impaired wearer. With several versions on the market today, it is hard to know which one might work for you. At Outlook we stay on top of the latest technology available and allow you to try different devices during private demo sessions to see which meets your vision needs. These demos are offered one day a month and take about 90 minutes. Cost: Whatever you'd like to offer to support our services to the visually impaired. If your vision is between 20/150 and 20/800, contact us today about a private demo. Imagine being able to once more look at your family photos or the intense colors of a fall day. If you’re experiencing low vision, you will literally see the difference digital eyewear can make in your life. Try on the ones currently on the market and decide on which one is right for you.

We are currently offering training via phone and Zoom. You can arrange a free training session from Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. by calling our training team at 402-614-3331.
